Prostate Cancer Foundation
Prostate Cancer Foundation Uses the Web to Battle Deadly Disease
The Prostate Cancer Foundation is the world's largest philanthropic source of support for prostate cancer research. Founded in 1993, the Foundation has raised more than $300 million and provided funding for prostate cancer research to more than 1,400 researchers at 100 institutions worldwide. The Prostate Cancer Foundation has a simple, yet urgent goal: to find better treatments and a cure for recurrent prostate cancer.
The Challenge:
- The Prostate Cancer Foundation needed to create a website that provided comprehensive information about prostate cancer prevention, detention, and treatments.
- The site also needed to provide ways for people to support the Foundation’s research efforts.
- The organization needed to further its position as the leading authority and resource on prostate cancer.
The Solution:
- Blackbaud Sphere™ provided the Foundation with a web-based solution to easily create custom donation and registration forms for fundraising.
- The email tools in Sphere® eMarketing™ have enabled the organization to send customized emails to volunteers, donors, and constituents.
- Using Sphere eMarketing, the Foundation has been able to provide real-time content and create a virtual online area for tributes and memorials for men who have dealt with prostate cancer.
- The Foundation used Sphere® Events™ to launch Athletes for a Cure.
The Results:
- The Foundation increased online giving by an average of 125 percent annually from 2004 through 2008.
- The Foundation also increased its online newsletter subscriber base by 475 percent in the first year.
- Following the SEO project, the Foundation consistently ranked #1 on Google Search, resulting in an increase in online visitors to over 120,000 a month.
- The Foundation increased participation in Athletes for a Cure from 421 in the inaugural year of 2006 to nearly 3,000 in 2008 to raise nearly $1 million.
