| Prospect Research for the Non-researcher |
Speaker: David Lamb Good prospect research can make the difference between getting a large gift and a major gift. By improving your understanding of the prospect’s wealth, interests, and place in the community, you can craft your ask more effectively to help the donor make the largest gift possible. But if your organization doesn’t employ a prospect researcher, you may feel that your ask will have to be a shot in the dark. Not necessarily! This session will introduce you to some free or low cost tools that any major gift officer should be able to use to do his or her own prospect research. |

| Cultivating Lifelong Donors: Stewardship and the Fundraising Pyramid |
This free, four-part web seminar series, Cultivating Lifelong Donors: Stewardship and the Fundraising Pyramid, helps nonprofits set strategies for building giving programs from engagement up through ultimate giving. The key thread through the series is stewarding supporters at all levels of the fundraising pyramid…even before a gift is made. Blackbaud nonprofit experts developed the seminars to cover a broad range of topics based on their vast experience in the nonprofit world. Each session is designed to build on the content from the previous session, so you can get a full overview with the complete series or concentrate on the sessions that interest you the most…all with the ultimate goal of helping you to maximize fundraising results.
Part 1 — Get Engaged: Donor Engagement Through Social Media Having a social media strategy is not its own objective. Rather, social media strategies can support your existing objectives. Reflect on your organization’s current objectives: Do you want to cultivate supporter relationships, build cause awareness, do online fundraising, or connect with new supporters? Those are all goals social media can help support, and this session will examine a multitude of ways to get started and how your organization can benefit. Download seminar recording.
Part 2 — Keeping Them: Stewarding "One-Time" Donors for Lasting Support In the wake of a disaster or other monumental events, many people who do not regularly donate to nonprofits are moved to assist with one-time gifts. New donors flood into nonprofit databases. What can be done to kindle that spark of compassion into a flame of philanthropy? In a word: stewardship. Join us to explore why retaining new donors is no trivial challenge. Download seminar recording.
Part 3 — Pyramid Power: Transitional Giving for Building Strong Fundraising Pyramids Data analysis suggests that many organizations have difficulty identifying transitional giving prospects: individuals emerging from the annual fund process who demonstrate potential to become mid-to-high level prospects in the years to come. History further suggests that we are often content to allow these prospects to self-identify through their first transitional gift, rather than using research to seek emerging prospects and implementing targeted development strategies to encourage more prospects to move up the giving pyramid. Join us to discuss the concept of transitional giving and its critical contribution to fundraising and campaign success. Download seminar recording.
Part 4 — Peak Performance: Strategic Stewardship for Planned Giving Programs True donor stewardship begins before you know that a gift has been made and continues even after the donor has passed away. A simple, yet strategic stewardship program welcomes your legacy givers into the organization’s highest ranks and provides them a two-way relationship throughout their lives. This session will explore how building an intentional bond with these future major donors strengthens your chances for increased current giving as well as future legacy gifts. | The Special Annual Fund Appeal: Bridging the Gap to Major Giving |
Speaker: Laura Worcester Are too many of your organization's donors "stuck" at giving levels far below their actual potential? If so, consider implementing a transitional giving program. Designed to "bridge the gap" between annual and major giving, transitional giving is an essential element of any comprehensive advancement effort. This session will help you identify which annual fund donors may have major giving potential and how you can implement a Special Annual Fund appeal to first bring these hidden treasures first to the $1000 level. Keeping in mind that if you want someone to act like a major gift donor, you first have to treat him or her like one, and you will learn strategies for unlocking the hidden potential in your database. | Target Affluent Prospects to Sustain Your Annual and Major Gift Programs |
Speaker: Katherine Swank The names of America’s wealthy are known to most of us: Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, and the (Sam) Walton family members, to name just a few. Their philanthropy is legendary, and many nonprofit organizations’ staff and leadership look for ways to connect with them. A few—very few—will succeed. What options does your organization have to acquire major and planned gifts if you aren’t on the short list? Turn your attention to cultivating prospects who are affluent versus wealthy. The affluent market has been one of the fastest growing in America for more than two decades. It has been estimated that by the year 2010, more than 19 million households in the U.S. will be affluent. Through consistent and meaningful communications with affluent prospects within your constituency, you can strengthen and grow your annual fund and your major donor base. Play Recording |
